Welcome to Spanish 1 (Elementary)
During this week, you will learn about numbers, how to say your name, greetings and farewells. But before we start, it is important that you know some things about the class.
In this type of class, you will have access to all the materials in here. You don't need anything from the outside world. You may need a printer for some docs that I will send you every now and then and that is only if you want to print them. I will advise that you do, but it is not mandatory. What is mandatory is attendance and attendance activities.
Every week, you need to make sure that you do the activities to count you present during that week. I have to enter your attendance not later than Wednesdays, so your attendance activity should be submitted by that Wednesday morning. Normally, the activity is watching a short video about one of the countries that speak Spanish and answer a few questions about that video. Since we are not going to have the time to talk about these countries, and taking advantage of the time, you will learn a little bit about these places via your attendance. These questions are not graded. They just serve as a means to count you present. If I don't receive them answers, then you will be counted absent for that week.
The course counts with documents, videos and quizzes. There are about 100 quizzes total. Your grade will be comprise of 10% attendance, 40% Tests and 50% quizzes. There will be only two tests during the course of the class: mid term and final test.
Given the amount of work that will be available, I do strongly suggest not to fall behind. All work per week is due on Friday's midnight. Once all work is submitted, I will have one week to review it.
Please, please, do not panic if you get a bad grade. It does not mean anything other than I need to log in and review your answers myself. Sometimes, the way in which you enter your answer does not coincide with the way I entered it. For instance, you may begin an answer with a capital letter but I entered it with a low case. That simple difference will make your answer be marked as wrong although it is correct. So, please, don't panic.
Lastly, the way in which we are going to communicate is via something called REMIND. Remind works pretty much like Whatsapp with the difference that it works for educational purposes only. So, in the next couple of days, I need everyone to email me your phone number and your name. I need to create the account in Remind for this class. Once I have created that account, you will receive an invitation from Mr. Garrido (that is me) asking you to download the app for Remind. It is the only way to gain access to the acct. Once your information is entered, we can start communicating with each other. Everything that I send, everybody will see. Anything that you send me, I am the only one who can see it. This is going to be our only means of communication unless I need to send you a document, then I will choose email.
Well, I believe this is all I need to relate. I hope you learn as much as you want to learn. If there is any question, please, let me know (via Remind or Email) and I will work it out with you. I am pretty easy to work with but I need to know before your situation becomes a problem.
Nos vemos!
