    Supported Operating Systems

    Moodle works on both Windows and macOS. Ensure your computer updates automatically or check for updates manually at least weekly.

    If you lack a home computer, contact the R-CCC library at 252-862-1240 to request a laptop.

    Supported Internet Browsers

    Moodle is compatible with most browsers, but Firefox and Google Chrome are regularly tested with Open LMS Moodle sites. Firefox is recommended for its additional accessibility tools.

    Screen Reader Support

    • Mozilla Firefox: NVDA Screen Reader (latest version recommended)

    Administrative Rights

    Having administrative rights on your computer and network is recommended for online coursework. Without these rights, you may face difficulties with tasks like installing plug-ins and have limited support options. Consult your workplace IT department to ensure you can access course materials from your company's network.

    Productivity Tools

    • Microsoft Office** (latest version recommended): Curriculum students have access to a free Microsoft 365 account. See the "Quick Start Guides" module for more information.
    • Google Workspace Apps
    • Grammarly

    Internet Browser Settings

    If you encounter issues accessing course content, check your browser’s Help features for these settings:

    • Disable Pop-Up Blocker
    • Enable JavaScript
    • Enable Java
    • Enable Cookies

    Recommended Tools for Online Coursework

    • Cloud storage (e.g., Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive) or USB drives
    • Printer
    • Webcam and compatible recording program

    Internet Access

    Internet access is required for online courses at Roanoke-Chowan Community College. Preferred internet connections:

    • Broadband (LAN, Cable, or DSL) is recommended and required for technical programs.
    • Satellite and/or Cellular (4G/5G) can also be used.

    For company internet connections, ensure appropriate plug-ins and access rights are available. Check with your IT department to confirm access to course materials.

    If you lack home internet, contact the R-CCC library at 252-862-1240 to request a mobile hotspot.

    Computer and Internet Security

    To protect against viruses and hackers, use an anti-virus package and firewall. Your computer is vulnerable to attacks whether online or using USB drives or networks.
