Course Summary
ATR-3115 Mechatronics / Industrial Maintenance Technician is an accelerated Workforce Continuing Education course designed to prepare students and employees for entry-level and advancing technical roles in manufacturing, production, and industrial environments. The course provides hands-on training across the mechanical, electrical, electronic, programmable logic controller (PLC), pneumatic, hydraulic, robotic, and automated technologies commonly encountered by industrial maintenance technicians.
The course follows a practical instructional model: Learn → Simulate → Build → Operate → Troubleshoot → Document. Students learn how industrial systems operate, interpret schematics, construct and operate equipment, and use diagnostic tools to identify and correct faults. Training includes Allen-Bradley PLC trainers and software and may incorporate Automation Studio for simulation of electrical, motor-control, pneumatic, hydraulic, electro-hydraulic, proportional-hydraulic, and related systems.
Troubleshooting is integrated throughout the course and increases in complexity as students progress from foundational safety and electrical concepts to integrated automated-system failures. Emphasis is placed on systematic, evidence-based diagnosis rather than replacing components based on assumptions. Students learn to identify symptoms, perform diagnostic testing, determine root causes, complete corrective actions, verify restored operation, and document their work.
Upon completion, students will have developed practical skills in industrial safety and lockout/tagout; electrical and motor-control systems; PLC programming and diagnostics; pneumatic and hydraulic systems; industrial automation and robotics; and systematic troubleshooting of multi-technology mechatronic systems. The course supports preparation for employment and advancement in positions such as Industrial Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Mechanic, Mechatronics Technician, Manufacturing Maintenance Technician, Automation Technician, Electrical Maintenance Technician, and Industrial Equipment Technician.
