I'm pursing a BSN in nursing. What inspired me was not having a lot of people that looked like me in healthcare settings. Certain experiences where I have been dismissed because there's a bias that says black people don't feel pain like others races which has never been a fact taught in any nursing class yet it's always coming up and showing up throughout healthcare. I want to be the change to that. I want to be the nurse that listens to the facts instead of judging do to stereotypes carried within. I want to set a standard in healthcare. Often times black people are afraid t go to doctors and dentist fearing they won't receive fair treatment or good quality care. The maternity death rate for black women is so much higher than any other race no matter their socioeconomic status basically put whether they're rich or poor they are stilled not listened to dying from things that are preventable if only they were heard and taken seriously. That's my why.
