I've always wanted to work in healthcare and believed it to be a preference. However, since I've grown in my faith, God has revealed to me that it's actually a calling. I am glad that I received this revelation before pursuing my goal in becoming a nurse because now I have a solid foundation to build on. There is always a difference in healthcare between the people who do it for money versus those who do it because they truly feel called to it.

Who or what inspired you to work in your chosen career field?

by Quamiesha Perry -

What inspired me to work in the career that I've chosen is experience in life. While growing up, I found myself surrounded by people with different skills and talent. That motivated me to learn more about myself. I've been through lots of different environments, the good and the bad. I've learned that in life you have to be strong, brave, motivated, lots of confidence, loyal, honest, self encourage and a will to help others. Learning to find what works best for me is Art, cooking, a leader and role model for children. I've learned how to do all of these things while growing up, which inspired me to choose Business and Early childhood education. Working with children, teaching them a lot of things that I've learned so they can have a solid foundation and a bright future.

Who and what inspired my work in chosen career field?

by Tamika Barnes -

My inspiration to become a Registered Nurse came from my mother. She was a single mom who raised seven children on her own, and watching her strength, resilience, and compassion had a profound impact on me. Despite all the challenges she faced, she always found a way to take care of us, and she did it with love and determination. Her example showed me what it means to care for others selflessly, even in the toughest circumstances. Three years ago, we had to watch my brother suffer with stage 4 lung cancer. That too was another reason for my career decision. Becoming a nurse allows me to carry on that legacy of caring and allow me to be there to comfort family in need. I’ve seen how powerful compassion can be, not only in a family but also in a healthcare setting. My mother inspired me to use that same spirit to help others heal, to be a source of support during difficult times, and to create a better future for my own family through hard work and service.

Hello everyone,

I'm excited to dive into this discussion with you all. This week's readings on the impact of social media on mental health have been particularly insightful for me. I was especially struck by the section that discussed "doomscrolling" and how it can contribute to anxiety and stress. It really made me reflect on my own habits and how easy it is to fall into that cycle.

I'm looking forward to reading your perspectives and will be sure to rate them as we go. Let's make this a great discussion!
